Pre Workout: 2g Niacin (vitamin B3) 30 – 60 mins pre workout.
A study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology looked at the effect of giving subjects niacin (vitamin B3), and measured their associated levels of growth hormone after exercise. What the researchers discovered was fairly impressive. Growth Hormone levels in the group that supplemented with niacin was associated with growth hormone levels increasing by over 1500% in some instances.
This is pretty significant and certainly worth experimenting with. 2g of Vitamin B3 about 1 hour pre workout should be sufficient to see a large growth hormone spike post workout.
Serious Supplements doesn't currently stock niacin (vitamin B3) but you'll be able to pick some up at your local chemist. Don't choose the "non flush" versions and also when dosing it this high, be sure to keep an eye on your liver function tests in the unlikely event they become elevated.
Growth Hormone production is highest on the commencement of sleep, and is closely tied to your body's circadian rhythm. A good night's sleep is essential to optimal Growth Hormone levels. GH Blast contains a number of sleep aid ingredients to help this process along
A number of studies have demonstrated that GABA (a key ingredient in GH Blast) elevates growth hormone levels. One study worth mentioning comes from the University of Milan in Milan, Italy titled, "Effect of acute and repeated administration of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) on growth hormone and prolactin secretion in man". This study demonstrated significant increases in Growth Hormone with an oral dose of GABA in all subjects taking the supplement.
L-Arginine is an ingredient which is surrounded with controversy when it is mentioned in the same breath as Growth Hormone. Some studies have demonstrated increases in Growth Hormone subsequent to L-arginine injections, but the oral studies we have available are mixed.
Some researchers have speculated that L-arginine may only increase GH secretion when taken at night, accounting for the mixed results of the oral studies (1).
L-Arginine is included in the GH Blast product, but is likely to be dosed way to low to have an appreciable effect. Serious Supplements recommends adding an addition 5-10g of Musashi Arginine to GH Blast.
Glutamine is another ingredient which has shown some promise in elevating GH levels. In the study provided below, subjects given a small dose of glutamine (2g) saw a significant rise in their plasma Growth Hormone Levels. The low cost of Glutamine coupled with this study is justification enough of including in any Growth Hormone Boosting stack.
